As anybody knows, some home design includes more-than-one doors that connect the inside with outside of the house, though some others only include one.
What I am going to talk here now is, even so, not about whether one or more that one doors is better than each other. Instead, I will show you a proper way to paint exterior doors of a house. Meanwhile, the doors that will be painted are those that have already installed. Thus, what I mean are how to repaint such doors.
Well, there are some steps that you need to follow to do the job. Here you are:
Step 1. Prepare the supplies.
You can never do the job if you don’t have the needed supplies including the materials and tools. Sandpaper, tape, primer, sawhorses, main paint, and sponge minimally are ready in your hand when you are about to do the project.
Step 2. Uninstall the doors.
Uninstall each of the doors one after another. Do that by separating two connecting parts of each of the hinges. It should be easy if you know the characteristics of the hinges. Then, the removed doors need to be placed onto the sawhorses now. Why do you need to do this? It is to make it easier to paint the doors.
Step 3. Uninstall the pulls and hinges from the doors.
The part of each hinge attached on each of the doors now needs to be removed. Remove also the hardware, e.g. the pulls. You need to do this step in order to avoid the pulls and hinges from getting painted. It is also the completely paint the doors’ surfaces.
Step 4. Sandpaper the surfaces of the exterior doors.
Each of the doors now needs to be cleaned up from the old finish. To do so, you need to your fine-grit sandpaper. Why do you need to use a fine-grit one? It is because you need to keep the surfaces smooth. After that, dust off the doors using the sponge that you have added with some drops of water.
Step 5. Apply the primer.
This time, you can start refinishing. First off, apply the primer. Then, let it dry for a couple of hours.
Step 6. Apply the main coat.
If you are sure that the primer is already dry, you can apply the main coat. Do that carefully in order to get a perfect result. Then, wait until dry.
Well, you can do painting the exterior doors all at once or completing one before you start another. It is all about your choice.
Step 7. Reinstall all you have removed.
To be sure, the last step is to reinstall the doors, pulls, and the others.
